Back Surgery

I never would have guessed that I would say this, especially at this age, but I’m scheduled for L5/S1 back surgery on February 2nd. The procedure is called a discectomy, and it involves removing part of a herniated disc that is pressing on my spinal cord and causing pain down my right leg. If you’re into such things, you can click my MRI image above for an image with notes.

Fortunately, my mom and dad will be flying to Knoxville the night before to stay with us for a few days while I recuperate.

My neurosurgeon has given me an 80% chance of successful surgery, meaning that there is a 4 in 5 chance that the surgery will dissipate or resolve the pain I’m experiencing.

Honestly, I feel quite at peace about the whole thing and no real anxiety about the procedure, but your prayers are appreciated.

  1. Had no idea this was going on!!

My husband Reggie had l4,l5 s1 fused, it worked great removing the pain, and he healed like a champ, praying that you, too, will be a poster child for God’s grace and back surgery!

  2. Just found you by google search…

    Howz your back now ???

How does it feel now after surgery….Do you feel that flexibility has reduced now ???

  3. Manish, I’m sorry to hear about your back. Surgery went very well, but the next few weeks of recovery can feel really horrible.

Fortunately, I seem to have made a complete recovery. It’s been over two years, and my back feels better than it ever has before. Hang in there!

  4. Hi Kyle,
I also came across the image through a google search.

    1. Joanne, thanks for your comment! Sorry to hear that you’re going through that.

I don’t know that recovery from a surgery like that is ever very pleasant, but I really feel like I’m back to normal now.

I’m praying for you right now and hoping that you’ll find relief from that discomfort soon!
