As I mentioned the other day, I’ve been building a Boba Fett costume for Halloween. It began with my wife’s innocent comment that it would be fun to dress up as Star Wars characters as a family, and when the costume I bought online didn’t live up to my expectations, I began to research how I might build my own costume. Fortunately, there’s a ton of great tips online, and I quickly found myself totally hooked. I love a good project, and without a doubt, this has been the best project I’ve ever attempted.
Below are photos of my costume through the process. I’ll continue to update this post as I add new components.
Rather than just serving as an example of my compulsiveness, I hope that others attempting to build a Boba Fett costume might find some ideas here and avoid some problems I encountered.
Dude! That is insane! Unbelievable, incredible work, but…… still insane!
Wow, this is amazing! I can’t wait to show it to my boys. Do you think you could sew me up some curtains?
Sammy is requesting a clone helmet (he said not to mix it up with the boba fett one)… And make it look like Rex.
I think you have lost it, dear one!
Oh, by the way, you are truly a creative genius!!! Love you! M
WOW!!! An amazing effort and production. Very impressive. I think you have a career in costume design awaiting you in HOllywood :) Lots of love, Sidney
where did you get the aluminium sheet?
Awesome work by the way!
Thanks, Graham! I picked that up at either Lowe’s or Home Depot. Pretty sure it was Lowe’s.
Thank you so much Kyle, We dont have either of them in Australia, but i get the idea.
My wife has already said “your’e not doing that indoors!”
Ha! Funny!
Basically, they’re a couple of home improvement stores. They sell it in small sheets.
Good luck with your costume! Send me pics as you make progress. kyle@kylegilbert.com
You wouldn’t say it was funny if you saw her face when she said it! Im really just planning to use your ideas as my guide, picked up a blaster at Target on the weekend. The only difference to your brilliant effort (loved your whole familypic too!) is thet Im going to modify the helmet.
Cheers.
That’s cool, Graham. Thanks for the compliments. I seriously thought about modifying the helmet as well, but I chickened out. :)
this is pretty sick man! how long did it take you to make? i want to do it before the 18th and today it the 5th. i also have school and work in the way. any ideas on how to shortcut the gauntlets? please email me soon if you get this comment
quite amazing – Thanks I am making a boba fett costume for a build a bear – your pics help!!! Thanks
This is AMAZING! My 7 year old picks out his Halloween costume 6 months in advance to give me enough time to make his costumes. Boy! I did not know what I got myself into. Final stretch…just a few more days! Great build.
That’s so cool that you’re building him a Boba Fett costume! Would love to see a pic when you’re done!
Any tips on the gauntlets? They are kicking my butt.
Since you shaped it with your hands, is it easily shapeable?
I’m worried for the armour morphing to a different shape.
